Connector 2.5.4: search pages through the whole result set and returns up to 1,000 rows a call, European patents and figures come through the connector, and court rulings are structured.

Note from the developers

A week that started with a bug and ended with the connector doing something it could not do before. Every connector search was quietly carrying the full text of each hit, about 5 MB for a page of 25, which is why an assistant could only ever see 25 results and never the total. Hits are now a few kilobytes each, every search says how many matches there are and how to get the next page, and a new bulk search returns up to 1,000 rows in one call. Around it: European patents open through the connector, drawings come back as images, court decisions carry structured rulings, and two long-standing search bugs are fixed.

Connector search pages through everything and says the total

A search through the connector returned the stored full text of every hit, so a page of 25 results was a 5 MB response and the tools capped there. Hits are now light, and every search reports the total, the range shown, and the exact call for the next page. The same change made the site's own search pages a quarter of the size.

    Bulk search through the connector

search_patents_bulk returns up to 1,000 patent ids, 150 brief rows, or 100 rows with snippets in a single call, with the same filters, sorts, and date windows as search. It is metered as one request per 25 rows returned, and every response says the total so the assistant can tell you what it did not fetch.

    European patents through the connector

Search takes an office argument (US, EP, or both), and get_patent_record and find_in_patent open EP grants and applications directly, with citations by claim and paragraph. An EP number as the query scopes itself to the EP corpus.

    Drawings through the connector

get_figures lists a patent's sheets with the record's own figure descriptions and returns the sheets you ask for as images, for US grants, publications, and EP documents. Grants issued before 2001 have their drawings cut from the issued PDF on first request, so the first call may answer pending and the next one ready.

    Structured rulings in Cases

Every decision now carries the winner, a ruling per legal issue with the court's own paragraph, and an outcome per patent (invalid, infringed, construed, and so on). Search on them by issue, determination, result, or outcome, on the site and through the connector. These labels are model-generated signals for finding decisions and are marked as such; the court's words are always one click away.

Searching both offices with US-only fields

A search across US and EP that named a US-only field such as the assignee returned an error from the EP side instead of results. Field lists are now matched to each office, so a combined search answers from both.

    Oldest-first sort

Sorting search results oldest first returned them newest first, on the site and through the connector. Fixed everywhere.

  • Fixed

    Family lookup on published applications

Asking the connector for the global family of a published application failed with 'no application number on record'. It now resolves the family for publications as well as grants.

    Supreme Court decisions in Cases

Each Supreme Court decision now appears once, with its real decided date instead of a year-only placeholder.
