Terms of Service.

Rules and guidelines for using Patent Bear. Plain language, not filler.

Effective: October 2, 2026 · Version 2.7

These Terms (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Patent Bear (the “Service”), operated by Puzzlelike LLC, a California limited liability company (“Puzzlelike,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

  1. 01

    Service description

Patent Bear is a patent search and analysis tool providing access to U.S. and European patent data and public court records, built from data published by the USPTO, the EPO, and the courts. The Service allows users to search patents, view claims, figures, and specification data, annotate patents with highlights and notes, use Ursa, our AI chat, for patent analysis, run Research analyses such as prior art search, charting, disclosure analysis, clearance screening, invention search, and citation, sequence, and chemistry search, prepare Draft documents, and reach all of these from a connected AI assistant.

  2. 02

    User accounts

Some features require an account. You are responsible for the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate information when creating an account and to notify us promptly of any unauthorized use.

  3. 03

    Subscriptions and billing

Patent Bear offers free and paid subscription plans. Paid plans are billed monthly or annually through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel. You may cancel any time via account settings or by contacting us; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods.

  4. 04

    Acceptable use

    • ·Do not use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
    • ·Do not attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its systems.
    • ·Do not use automated tools to scrape, crawl, or bulk-download data.
    • ·Do not use the Service, its outputs, or its data to build, train, or improve a product or service that competes with Patent Bear.
    • ·Do not publish benchmarks, comparisons, or performance tests of the Service without our prior written consent.
    • ·Do not interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure.
    • ·Do not impersonate any person or entity.
    • ·Do not share account credentials or allow others to access your account.
  5. 05

    AI chat, Research, and Draft

Ursa, Research, and Draft provide AI-assisted patent analysis, drafting, and workflow support. Outputs are a starting point for review, not a legal opinion. Responses, citations, claim mappings, element breakdowns, summaries, search results, rankings, and draft documents are generated by software and machine-learning models and may contain errors, omissions, hallucinations, stale data, or inaccurate citations. Verify every citation, date, claim mapping, legal standard, and conclusion against the underlying documents before relying on it.

  6. 06

    Draft documents

Draft prepares working documents from the patent record and your own runs, such as an Information Disclosure Statement, a definitions section, or a double patenting chart, delivered as Word files you can edit. A draft is a starting point for your review, not a filing. Patent Bear does not file anything with the USPTO, any court, or any other office, and does not certify that a draft is complete or accurate. You are responsible for reviewing, completing, and signing any document before you file or serve it, including your duty of candor and disclosure obligations.

  7. 07

    AI assistants and the connector

You can connect Patent Bear to an AI assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini, or to another client that supports the Model Context Protocol. When you authorize a connection, you allow that assistant to act on your account through the tools you use it for: searching and reading the record, saving to your Library, and starting Research analyses or Draft documents. Anything that consumes credits is shown to you with its cost and runs only after you confirm it. Results you request are returned to your assistant, and its provider processes them under your own agreement with that provider, not these Terms; Patent Bear does not control that provider. Connector requests count toward your plan's connector limit, are logged as described in our Privacy Policy, and you can disconnect at any time from your plan page.

  8. 08

    Clearance analysis

Clearance produces a preliminary granted-claim watch list. It is not an infringement, freedom-to-operate, validity, invalidity, enforceability, non-infringement, or clearance opinion. A listed claim does not mean your product infringes, and an omitted claim does not mean there is no risk. You are responsible for reviewing the full claim language, file history, ownership, term, expiration, product facts, claim construction, doctrine of equivalents, and all cited evidence with qualified counsel.

  9. 09

    User-provided materials

You are responsible for the materials you submit to the Service, including invention disclosures, product descriptions, claim sets, technical documents, prompts, and uploaded or pasted text. Only submit materials you have the right to process through Patent Bear. Patent Bear treats the materials you submit as your confidential information: we use them solely to provide the Service to you, we do not sell them, and we do not disclose them to third parties other than the subprocessors listed in our Privacy Policy as needed to provide the Service. Patent Bear does not train AI models on your submissions or on the outputs generated for you. Our AI providers, currently OpenAI and DeepInfra, accessed only through their business API tiers, are barred under their API terms from training models on your submissions or outputs unless the customer opts in, and Patent Bear does not opt in to any provider training or data-sharing program. To generate results, Research, Draft, and AI features transmit your materials to Patent Bear's private, single-tenant processing workers, keyed by an anonymous account identifier, and to the AI providers listed in our Privacy Policy under those API terms; the workers process the data transiently and do not persist it to disk. You can delete individual runs and conversations at any time and request deletion of your account and its data. You remain responsible for compliance with any export-control obligations that apply to your materials. Review how the Service processes your information under our Privacy Policy and Security page.

  10. 10

    Intellectual property

The Patent Bear user interface, design, code, and any original analysis or commentary are the property of Patent Bear and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, or distribute the Service's proprietary elements without written consent.

  11. 11

    Third-party content & downloads

PDF downloads of patents and publications are served from the USPTO or the issuing patent office. Patent Bear does not host, modify, or redistribute these files. We make no representation about the availability, accuracy, or completeness of any PDF obtained through these links.
